Isone Pro - the best thing you could ever get for your headphones on your computer

Hi, I see that this thread has been inactive for 3 years now.
Is Isone still "the best thing" for our headphones, or are there better things now ?
I'm looking for binaural / spatialization stuff.
Thanks in advance :)

There have been other plugins that do the same basic function, but they might not necessarily have all the features of Isone (such as simulating different listening spaces or speakers setups). I haven't kept up with this area since I rarely use headphones at my desk these days, and most of the more recent music are mixed/mastered with headphones in consideration, so the drastic panning of past eras is no longer an issue on headphones. However, if you have a lot of older music from past eras in your collection, then you'd still need a high quality natural sounding crossfeed. You can try searching "head related transfer functions headphone crossfeed plugin" and customizing the search to just the last year or so and see if there are newer plugins in that realm.

Toneboosters ISONE is now free!!!

There are many alternatives now but honestly, I still prefer ISONE because it is completely parametric, therefore totally transparent, and above all because it is able to give that depth of the sound front which is an essential requirement.

If you want something more dedicated to mixing, for me, Realphones is the best solution. You will inevitably degrade the audio, but this is the price if you want to copy a real environment, truly impressive!

You can test most of them, almost all have a demo, but do yourself a favor: Forget complex and articulated musical pieces and look for a video (a context helps) that has a single interlocutor in a room with little reverb and recorded with a mono microphone (perfect if in an anechoic chamber). In this context, it will be easy to understand which software simulates a room better because the voice of the interlocutor will move clearly in depth in front of you. Forget those who tell you to listen to how you are enveloped by the sound.

Personally, I tried:

  • OOYH: Only the PBN audio preset really impressed me but it totally destroyed the response of my headphones.
  • Commercial stuff (DTS, Dolby, Razer, etc.): Useless.
  • Goodhertz Can Opener: If only the crossfeed was enough it would be too easy.
  • Waves NX virtual room: High expectations but a lot of disappointment.
  • Hornet VHS: No sensation but I think it was buggy.
  • Sienna Studio (Free version): The king of marketing!
  • Realphones: The real king, impressive simulation, at a decent price it has everything you need, VST and Standalone.
  • Tonebooster ISONE: My favorite, simple and essential, transparent, very effective and now also FREE!!
