Ok, just a thought: is it not possible to put iems into some kind of recording device that can capture the sound they produce?
Surely, all you'd need is a two-mic set up with some kind of fake ears built around them?
If you could do that, and record the sound produced by select test tracks on a controlled series of portable devices, you could then produce a database of sound files that could be used to assess and 'trial' how different iems sound, right?
That could seriously revolutionise this place.
I've been into vinyl and turntables for a little while now and I've come across such databases of sound files comparing different catridges - surely it must be possible to do the same for iems?
Head-fi boffins - get your blackboards and toolsheds ready!
