is mp3 320kbps good enough for sennheiser hd 598?

Looks like you have remarkably good hearing/a trained ear. Is it one or both?
How difficult did you find it to distinguish the tracks? If you do try it with other ones, please PM me the results (as not to derail the thread), ABX tests are invariably interesting.

Not saying you are cheating or anything, but why is the lossless file using an entire album (it's a cue sheet) and the mp3 is just one track from that album (yes I googled the album and yes I can read Japanese)?

I would prefer if you rip just that one track out, just to make sure.

Whatever the tests say, I know this : the vast majority of Head-Fiers will opt for higher bitrates if given a choice. The only exception I can think of is folk with smaller capacity DAPs and especially tight ISP caps on their monthly downloads. Given that a lot of gamers will happily download a 4GB demo, and Apple initially insisted that Lion would only be available via a huge download, I expect that 'audiophiles' in that position are doing themselves a disservice.

I would happily trade bitrate for proper mixing and authoring of the master any day to be honest.  Bitrate is so easily done on the computer side - just press a check box and you are done, and then the companies could just fool the buyers and say "hey look now it's Hi-FI quality!  Now pay us more!"

Get rid of the loudness war crap first and we can talk bitrates later.

An old favourite track, I think I've listened to this a few hundred times already.

The cue sheet has the timecodes and all that crap built it, and I just threw the cue cheet into foobar and it split the tracks for me already for the playlist. I only compared track 5, but I think the ABX just gave the filepath for the cue sheet, as that's what was selected in my foobar.

The reason why I ripped it as 1 massive file + a cue sheet is because it's better manners that way. *cough* for sharing on a particular forum *cough*

I think it would be the exact same thing if I did it as a separate file, besides, I have another positive result above, from a separate file.

I'm not expecting the results to be different if you did the test properly for either method, just that to make the result persuading I think most would prefer a single track rip to lossless/lossy as it takes out the remaining uncertainty that people can call you out on for "bad testing method".

I don;t care if there is a difference. I have 200gb of mp3 music. If that was flac it would be 5 times that so 1tb. No thank you. 1tb for music is just way to much regardless of sound improvement. A 1tb hard drive here is $150 which is to much. No thanks.

I don't care either, the differences don't bother me in the slightest, I just wanted to prove that there was indeed an audible difference to shut some people up.

Are you rolling with a laptop? Space does becomes a concern very quickly, and it's a pain to use external hard drives.

Yes 2 to be exact. And when it comes to external hard drives i demand ones that are powered by usb. Those are a lot more money.
