Is it bad idea to do your own impressions? (for re-shell with Fisher)

I am thinking of ordering the silicone material, ear damns and syringe from westone and doing them myself.  (all materials for doing about 10 ears is about $30) have buddies that may be able to make use of the extra material also.

Has anyone done this themselves?  I just am having trouble finding an audilogist nearby and finding the time to take off work, etc... Someone mentioned that it's not wise to do these yourself, as there can be impacted wax, etc that may cause fit issues if you do these without having a pro look deep into your ears first.  I really don't have any kind of issues hearing or with ear wax at all, and I know I don't have a busted/hole in my ear drum, etc.  I never pull out any clumps or brown wax or anything, Qtips are always pretty clean.  Any thoughts on this?  Is that really common?

Anyway, I have Triple-fi10s and want to have them re-shelled with Fisher Hearing.  So, any advice about doing the impressions at home is welcomed!

Thanks,
Eric
