I'm totally dissatisfied with the stock headphone jack of my G5.5 iPod. I'd love to get the sound quality of an iMod + Hornet, but I'm not willing to lug another device (the mini amp) around. One possible compromise is to get a dock line out cable to plug my headphones directly into. Here's my question: does the dock line out bypass the iPod's volume control? I know that the G5s do not allow volume control from the dock line out. But I've heard that the G5.5s do. Is there anyone with a G5.5 that can confirm or deny this?

Once you go to the lineout you bypass any volume control. That is why a amplifier is necessary.
