I've owned the HD414 for a long time, and really that's all I've been using for quite a long time. I find that the sound compared to the AD700 is actually quite comparable, perhaps even better for most types of music. I do find that the AD700 has a airier tone, and sharper vocals. But the HD414 has more energy, more kick in its bass and seems to play better with rock/pop, whilst the AD700 plays well with instrumental and vocal based works.

Anyways, I find it interesting that the HD414 is still quite comparable to mid range headphones of this era.

I've recently ordered the ATH-M50, and I was wondering if it would be a clear improvement over the HD414, or would they still be comparable?

It astounds me how much staying power the 414's have.
