I already have the Shure SE535LTD and they sound amazing for acoustic music but they flop when it comes to busy passages and sound terrible for some genres. So now I'm looking for something "different" that would compliment my shures. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Try out a used pair of Etymotic ER-4. eBay has em for about 150 bucks.

I did and less than a month later, I gave them away to my best friend... After my new pair had arrived.

They are as fast as anything that I have heard. And I test them to the max every day.

Can you elaborate as to what you think the SE535 is terrible at?

I'm one of the few FitEar TO GO! 111 owners on Head-Fi right now. I also own the SE535 (not the LTD).

Try to upgrade a IEM cable instead of original. You will feel the power of 535LTD out of your magineation

gkanai, it sounds like a wall of noise hitting me when the music passages get busy, I think it is because of the emphasized mids?
 
guppy, what cable upgrade do you recommend?

I'm not sure I hear what you hear (maybe point me to a track that you think the SE535 does poorly on?)
 
The FitEar TO GO! 111 is designed to match the ER-4S/4P but with better comfort and without the need for amplification. Have you tried the Etys?

The UM3x, Audio-Technica ATH_CK100Pro, JVC FX700 ( it has deep punchier reverbing bass), Sony EX1000, RE272 handle busy passages better and overall they all are very detailed.
