So I'm listening to In a Silent Way (I hadn't listened in a while) and was struck by the high noise floor. Yes I have several versions of Kind of Blue and am aware of it's "Smokey" backdrop. But with In A Silent Way it just seems not as endearing and much louder.

I played it (lossless) from computer and from my Marantz (digital out to my DAC) with the same result. I'm still listening as I'm typing this and am enjoying it but am still a little miffed.

Hmm, first time I noticed that. I listen louder now than I used to. A shame, it sounds great otherwise.

Sorry if I ruined it for you. lol

Don't get me wrong. I love the album and just about everything else from Miles. I just got miffed at the higher noise floor than I'd like.

Bad mastering job.

There shouldn't be that much noise on those albums. Why engineers love to boost 10k is beyond me.
