Hi,
 
I think I am going to give up on my Fiio E7.
 
I tried for several weeks trying to convince myself that the Fiio E7 was making a difference to my setup (my setup is Alienware M11x -> Fiio E7 (as USB DAC) -> AKG K551). I cannot for the life of me distinguish between the Fiio E7 as a USB DAC and the onboard soundcard.
 
Does my setup just don't keep a headphone amplifier? Or am I just not using the right USB DAC for my setup to not hear a difference?

 Using it as a USB DAC you won't hear much difference. Connect the computer headphone out to the E7, then plug your headphones into the E7 and you'll hear a difference.

Because the internal sound card of your Alienware computer is just as good as the Fiio E7 DAC. To hear an improvement you need a better DAC than the E7.
