I've never noticed the blue wire running around under the grills before. My HP-2's aren't like that.

These are as they came from grado. I'd assume the wire is to the polarity switch.

In theory, some music is recorded out of phase, or 1 channel is out of phase with the other. Mostly, it's just something else to break...but it looks cool.
