Hi, I had my E3G for 5 years and it finally broke a tip. Turns out Shure will give me the SE315 for $96 + tax. I thought it was a good deal and went ahead and gotten it. However, I've been trying to wear it for 2 days now even using the smallest foam tip and it feels really bulky. My ear canal hurts after wearing it for minutes. This can't be right since I have taken cross-continent trips on the E3G and not have this issue.

For one, E3G is very small and light. Also though I didn't like the cable on the E3G, I absolutely hate the memory cable on the SE315. It is just plain uncomfortable behind my ears. Again, point of reference is the E3G.

Can I just strip away the additional sleeve and (memory) wire? Has anyone tried this? Does it help? Will also contact Shure and see if they can swap me an older model.
