For a few of my portable headphones, I would like to add a inline remote mainly for the purpose of skipping to the next track. Volume control / mic is bonus.

Is there any good way / part(s) to do this?

There are a few apple old earbuds lying around unused and they have a inline remote/volume control (and mic I guess, not sure).

Is it simple to cut it apart, cut the wires on the headphones and just glue with a electrical tape?

Anything special to watch out for?

Thanks

Basic question. On the wire on one side that goes to the driver (above the y connection) inside there will be wires carrying current in both direction shielded from each other, to and from the driver? in which case cutting them and rejoining needs them to be kept shielded?
