I at the moment have 2 pairs of DT770 and one of them is much brighter than the other . They are both 250 ohm and they are both nicely used . But the difference is rather great.
Any one care to add any experiences they have had in this situation.

I noticed the other day a post here noting large differences in HD650

Well I had two experiences:

1) MDR-R10. I've A/Bed two of them one was serial number around 300 and the other was 1186. The second one had a much fuller sound with spectacular bass while the first one was very thin (and the secon one wasn't even burned-in).

2) RS-2. I've heard three units that sounded noticeably different from each other and each one was fully burned in.

At the Atlanta Head-fi meet I was at first sure that the other pair of HD650s sounded better than mine, but when I finally sat down to do a serious comparison I had to conclude there wasn't more than 1% or so of difference. Maybe the other pair was ever-so-slightly smoother - maybe. Nothing like the difference between the sources, though

I also have two pairs of the AKG K340 that are vastly different - one has way too little bass and the other has too much bass. The one with little bass has been recabled, but most of these differences existed before the mod (using Senn HD580 as a common reference). I'm not sure what caused the gap but then they are a 20+ year old headphone that probably went through a few versions before the production run ended.
