Yes, I was wondering if anyone knows when the 1st production dedicated headphone amplifiers (tube and SS) were built? There doesn't seem to be alot of info available on the history of hp amps, so any insight in this regard would be appreciated.

I remember selfcontained units in my college library over thirty years ago which contained a turntable playing through a dedicated stereo headphone amp for library use. Custom stuff probably goes back to just after World War II when binaural headphones of increasing quality became available to the public.

The 1962 Lafayette Radio and Electronics catalog lists the Koss A-1220 tube headphone amplifier for $34.95 (approx. $200 today.)
