Holo Audio May DAC Speculation

Thanks guys! I've placed by order on the May KTE and should receive it in couple weeks time.

This will replace my T+ and Hermes DDC + Synergistic Research's Atmosphere X2 Coax clock cables + Tubulus Concentus I2S cable. This combo combined costs a lot more than the May itself. Wonder how can the May sound better. I might be stupid to dump a lot of money to buy thing blind but I have no chance to audition this kind of stuff where I live... so whatever. Also ordered the Holo Red, as its price is reasonable and seems to be best measured DDC around (can be useful as I plan to connect both my A6ME and Aurender N100 with the May).

Plan to break in the May for at least 300-400 hours before putting it into my rack though. Will report back how it fares against my current DAC+DDC. If May is better the Termie set will have to go... with substantial discount of course as this kind of stuff seems to hold no value over time.

Hi guys. How do you usually connect the May to the PC...? Directly to a USB output of the PC or do you recommend a Sotom-type audio signal regenerator, or a ddc like Singxer or do you think that the isolation and quality of the USB connection of the May is sufficient and nothing in between is necessary...?
Thanks for your opinion....
Whilst I have no 1st hand experience, from my reading (a lot), it seems USB implementation in May is outstanding. Goldensound even said it's measured better than the best DDC around. So I think the USB should serve you well. Also with USB there will be no syncing/locking time with PLL on.

I used direct, then felt I heard some static caused by my old Mac when I scrolled or was doing other work, so I ordered the Intona USB isolator. Of course once I received it the noise issue stopped. I connected it anyway, but I would say you should not need it unless you have a similar issue.

I've had the May in for a bit and it is exactly what I had hoped. I was beginning to lose hope - I've been trying DACs and didn't feel like anything was giving me what I was looking for.

Interestingly, this thing has transformed the Feliks Envy amp for me. I was on the fence with selling it since I wasn't quite jiving with it, but the May and the Innuos Zenith have really brought a sense of realism to the amp, and therefore my favorite headphones that I just can't get over.

P.S. - thanks to all who've talked about burn-in, and that there's been some backsliding. I've had stretches of incredible sounds. Fluid, natural and dynamic. And then moments where I think I dreamt it all or must've just been in really good mood. More muddy, less dynamic, less alive. Then I remember, burn-in..

Awesome! I forget if you already mentioned this, so apologies if you did, but how do you like the May with the WA23?

Oh man, I love it. It's a perfect match in my opinion. But I find the match with Envy most interesting because it's transformed it to something I really love now. WA23 seems less picky... sounds great with everything!

That’s so great to hear about the Envy. I know it’s a real contender, but being transformed because of the May, that’s awesome!

I agree, the WA23 sounds great with practically everything that I’ve connected to it, both up-chain and down-chain. I really, really enjoy the May with the WA23, too!

I finally received my KTE yesterday. I'm trying to run HQplayer (5.7.1) DSD in 1024 through roon, but the display always shows DSD512x. What am I doing wrong. My settings in the photo. Connected via USB. Roon is on a separate PC. And HQplayer on PC 13700/4090.

Try changing from WASAPI to the Holo ASIO driver. Is the May new or used? If used, could be the firmware needs flashed.

Hallo.

Congrats.

Also, select 48x1024 as limit instead of 44.1 if selecting adaptive so 48k files play within family if you wish.

Hi guys,

I just received my unit yesterday (MAY KTE + Red) and am currently in break-in process. However, I find that the DAC unit runs very hot (well... not too hot to the touch but hotter than usual). I also have Denafrips Terminator Plus and I thought it ran hot... until I have the May KTE, and it's different story as the May runs significantly warmer.

I'm thinking of getting a high quality/ low-RPM fan e.g., some Noctua fans to blow the air over, but then I realize... if anything, doing so only cooling down the case, but its' inside the case that's hot and the case has zero ventilation port.

As where I live, with no AC on the room temp can go very high (up to 40C), so I'm unsure leaving it in "standby" mode while not in use will significantly wear the components.

Anybody in hot climate leaving this in standby while not in use (and you are away so the AC is off)? How long have you had the unit and have you guys run into any problems?
