Since this thread very much looks to be the official Wooduo2 by Hisoundaudio review/impression thread. I will post my experience/thoughts about these. I have been using them on and off for a couple of weeks.
From what I know that Jack Fu told me. I have a prototype version for review, so it's not the official release. If you take a closer look at the picture below. The very observant viewer will notice that the box I received seems to belong to the PAA-1, which to my knowledge is one Hisoundaudio's
earbuds. So this is not a pair of earbuds that I have received, just to make this clear!
To stick around the box. I actually thought it was quite a consumer friendly box to deal with, very easy to open, no need for scissors combined with foul language! I hope that Hisoundaudio will stay with a box similar to this one when the Wooduo it's ready to be released.
In my "PAA-1" box there was included quite an impressive amount of eartips, like nine pairs in total. I found triple flangers, dual flangers, singles and a dual flanger pair that looks very much like something that came with a pair of Sennheiser IE8 that once was in my hands and ears.
I won't go more into detail about the tips since I have no idea what will be included in the official box. Although I will say one thing and I hope that Jack Fu will take me up on this?
All the tips are either small or medium sized, so I think that there should to be some large tips included as well. I believe that there are a decent amount of people in the US/EU that have fairly large sized ears and they may need large sized tips to create a decent seal.
There was also a shirt clip included, which can come in very handy for some because there is irritating some cable noise present when I move around and wear them cable down.
I have not heard any Hisoundaudio IEM's before, so I have no idea where the Wooduo2 actual places itself in relation to other HSaudio releases.
The Wooduo2 is a fairly tiny IEM with a wooden housing. The cable is flat and the color is red, all this is no secret to anyone. I'm not a big fan of flat cables, nor the color red, I will admit this immediately. I do also understand that this is a popular choice by many, at least at my gym!
I do wish that Hisoundaudio will consider other choices as well, just for those who feels the same way I do. I don't find a flat cable to be overly comfortable and practically to wear around the ear, which is my preferred way of wearing IEM's. In my experience by wearing it this way I can reduce cable noise significantly and also achieve a better placement of the IEM in my ear.
The first thing that strikes me when I listen to the Wooduo2 is the bass.
It actually also strikes me in a physical way because there are some deep sub-bass present which is impressive for such a tiny IEM. Personally, I do find the bass to be very dominant in the overall picture and according to my flavor, but other ears than mine may enjoy this heavy bass presentation much more than I do actually find that the Wooduo2 in this area, quality wise, performs really well compared to other IEM's that presents a similar strong bass presentation regarding to what I have heard in the around $100 price range.
The midrange exhibits some very good clarity, but not as present or forward as the bass presentation. With music that contains a lot of bass I feel that the midrange presentation becomes somewhat distant sounding. When I listen to recordings that are more vocal based and added a few acoustic instrument then the mids are better presented and the Wooduo2 can actually sound quite pleasant and expose some of the midrange clarity that I mentioned in the first line of this paragraph.
The treble presentation is performing a bit better than the midrange. I can actually on occasions hear some decent top end sparkle on cymbal crash etc. So a very decent treble extension and overall a pleasant experience to spend time with.
The soundstage, is actually what I find the most impressive with the Wooduo2. It's very wide and a great heights as well, but it does lack somewhat in depth compared to the width and height to really give me a perfect 3-D sound presentation. Because of the above average horizontal stage, instrumental separation can be very present and can actually make the Wooduo2 sound more expensive than their actual price.. The just as good vertical staging gives me with some recordings a nice feel of vocals floating above my head. A touch of airiness or forwardness I would assume.
Summing it up. The Wooduo2, is what I would define as a V-shapes sounding IEM. It's a very popular sound presentation and it I think it fares really well with music that are listened to by many these days. I certainly had fun using it at the gym and listening to deadmau5, Euro trance in different languages etc. I will also be very honest and say that it's not a personal flavor of mine when listening to the music I typical prefer listen to, but I do recognize that the Wooduo2 very well can do the trick for others.
Great soundstage, a very strong bass presentation, good midrange clarity and the occasional sparkle if that's what's you're looking for!
