The 2nd TRRS plug shown is the one I had terminated to my Sennheiser cable. Has a steel center.

This looks like 'the' one. Same brand as HiFiman TRRS socket. Don't know about steel center pin?

As a 4-pin XLR female -> TRRS.

Why would you want a TRRS to TRS plug? Just run the balanced amp in normal mode.

I haven't seen any mention of the IEM amp card.  Does anyone have any idea how it would compare with the balanced amp card for use with IEM's?
 
I wonder if it's possible that it sounds as good or even better with IEM's.  Also, perhaps it doesn't go through the battery as fast.
 
If one were only intending to use IEM's, I suppose this may be the way to go.  But then maybe the balanced card sounds as good, but will provide more options in terms of headphones.
