There is a ledge / hook thingy on the upper side of the battery bay, use a small flat piece of object to push it slightly in and at the same time, lightly pry the battery out. If you prefer not to pry the battery, just hold the whole player screen-side-up (battery-side-down) and use you finger to push the ledge / hook inward and allow gravity to drop the battery out for you.

Thanks Clie, sorry one more thing I would like to run my amp and I removed the amp card and did the head phone out to amp in with no luck.

With the amp card out, nothing will go to the Headphone out. You have to use the accessory cable that came with the 901.

^ What jamato8 said. If you want to get the line-out from HM901, you need to use the line-out adapter (which goes into the dock connection). If there isn't one that comes with your HM901, you can still find them online.

I am sure there a several places to get the adapters if not directly from Hifiman. They work quite well.

I don't know. Integration with the 901 could be taken up here. I have enjoyed mine for some time. Very versatile and offers a number of connections. I like the sound with the buffer on.

I'm considering to get the dock-1 but at the same time not sure if the money could be better spent on a dedicated desktop DAC/amp instead. What do other 901 owners think?

The dock gives you about everything, with the dual Sabre dacs, optical, coax both in or out, RCA out  and USB. Well someone will have it in a home system. I am just getting to mine after having it in storage for a long time.

I already have an Audiolab MDac which is superb, but I will get this in April for my birthday, shame it came out too late for Xmas.As there was no release date I got a new tablet instead!

If it came out one day earlier I would be ordering it now!

I guess the big question is, does it sound better than using the RCA dock cable?

HiFiMan claims it should have better soundstage and extension.

To me, the price is simply way too high to even think about getting it. At $299, I might have considered it, but $499 ... well, then let's just say that I will live happily without it.

I think that HiFiMan has set the price so high, that I expect the sales to be quite limited - especially compared to the sales it would have had with the rumored ~ $300 price, IMO of course.

There might be many HM-901/802 owners that have nothing else to spend their abundant cash on.

I am very satisfied with the sound I get directly out of the line out and the $30 third party plug I got for it.

The Dock-1 may improve on this, but frankly I don't need it to be even better, because it's already brilliantly sounding directly from the DAPs LO.

I wonder if Jriver + Fidelizer usb out to the dock with AQ diamond grade USB cable can squeeze out a little bit more from the HM-901....
