Well, if you wanna put it negatively, I guess you can sort of seeing those kinds of tradeoffs, but if youre being negative, the HE4 is thinner, colder, harsher, and less euphonic than the HE500..

Its purely based on preferences. You either want the speed and air of the 4, or the musicality, warmth and organic tone of the 500.

Basically, LCD2 vs HE6?

Ahhhh.  the 500 has no speed and air.....I think someone said the HE-560 has that!  Maybe the HE-4 is just more neutral than the 500?

Cute you seem to love your 4s so stay with them I love my 500s but probably will give the 560 a shot nobody makes you get a new hp if your happy stay put

That is what I am tearing my hair out trying to decide.  If I get the 560, how will it sound with my setup, would I have to spend more on my setup, don't want that.  The HE-4 was a real surprise to me, I though I would like the HE-6 more, didn't and returned them.  Also sold my Beyer T1, because of the HE-4, there was no contest between the T1 and HE-4 when it came to air and soundstage!

It does that's why the 560 is a cross between the 500 and 6.
The 4s are more neutral than the 500s yes.
But as MLE said, it depends on what you want :]

Well, dimishing returns and all that. If youre that happy, then settle with the HE4. I mean, its a fantastic headphone. Maybe the 560 is better, maybe it might be more similar than different. Honestly, 2x the price usually never justifies the performance gain. You pay a premium to get the definitive version of a headphone, though it won't necessarily walk all over its predecessor. I mean, people had the same problem when the LCD3 came out. Many could not justify the price gap to performance gap between the LCD2 and LCD3.

Ok, running the 560 for about 18 hours now. The phones do need time for the bass to come in. One track I always use, yesterday was meh on bass. Today, much better foundation and lower and tighter. Wire and everything needs time. I will be curious after 100 hours.

Cute, one way to look at it is that it seems the 560 shares more in common with the HE4, than the HE500, based on the impressions. So a logical assumption would be that it improves on everything you like about the HE4. Is it worth it to you to get something akin to an improved version of HE4 for double the price? Only you can answer that.

I don't think the lcd 2 has air at all.

^^ Compared to the hifiman line, Audeze hp's will always seem thick. Even the he500, which would be considered lushest and thickest in the whole line, would still sound much airier and brighter than an Audeze hp.

The he4, IMO, has a V shaped/tilted signature no matter what amp that you use with it. I've used some very good amps with it and it still had the same signature.

There's a graph for the He-4 now. It's slightly V shaped according to it. The air probably makes that seems more so.

I offered the member my modded he4 (open grill and felt removed behind the driver) but no response. The mods make the 4s more even between mids and highs while keeping air.

What you're stalking the man now? Lol.

Nah he didn't reply yet, but I just now saw an email from him 2 days ago asking if I could give him some info about my observations with the baffle, I guess he read about my posts on Friday and has already started investigating.

Dude, never say it was from 2 days ago.  These people will eat you alive!  2 hours, pretty sure that's what you meant.  Everyone fat fingers a post on occasion.  That's why there's a Edit button
