Amps/Dac for Hifiman he 400i any ideas are wellcome. $250-380

Schiit Stack Magni 2 and Modi 2

Schiit Stack vali and modi 2

O2+ODAC Combo. AKA= Mayflower Objective2 ODAC Combo

I just got a Teac UD-301 (on sale at Crutchfield $299) and the HE-400i works great with it.  Also have a older Teac AH-01 which I think sounds better than my Modi/Magni stack.  Both Teac DAC/AMPs have better bass and the highs are smoother, not as harsh sounding.  I don't know how the 2nd gen modi/magni or vali sound so hopefully someone can answer that.

A few for your consideration would be: Gustard H10 amp, Breeze Audio amp and dac(great value and sound), Cayin HA-2i amp, Beresford Bushmaster MKII dac with built in amp, Shanling PH300 amp and Schiit Magni/Modi combo.
I am fortunate enough to own all of these (and a few more! It's a sickness I tell you!) and they all drive the HE400i's quite well.
If I had to live with only one of them with my HE400i's it would be a toss-up between the Gustard H10 and the Shanling PH300 (a hybrid SS/tube amp) but your mileage may vary.
Hope this didn't confuse you too much.

Audio GD products are pretty solid for the price as well, and they have enough power for other more hungry planars (Bar the HE6) if you ever go down that route later on.

Is this safe for the hifiman he 400i?
NFB-15
33500mW/25 ohm
1800mW/50 ohm
900mW/100 ohm
300mW/300 ohm
150mW/600 ohm

I use this with the HE400i for my work setup - perfectly safe with them. This amp has a low and high gain setting - low gain is great with them - plenty of turn in the pot. Plenty of authority in the sound for a great price. Remember that when using the volume pot, not all that power is being sent through the cans unless you are cranking it too high.

So the low gain is recommended over the high is there a reason, like will it break my headphones if i crank the volume and gain to max on my he400i?

No, it will be fine. But on high gain you don't get as much turn from the volume pot, so changing volume has less range. Low gain is more than enough to blow your eardrums turned way up as it is.  I've put the volume way up before and used them as mini speakers just for fun and no problems.

Look what I got in the mail today.

I won these from Hifiman's valentines day giveaway. They sound really good plugged into my O2 amp. Really comfortable too, I'm probably going to listen to these all day.

Anyone here who has first hand experience with 400i compared to hd650 regarding the low range?

My impressions on Project Ember Amp, middle output impedance setting:  400i goes lower and is tight, HD650 is louder but does not go as low and is slow,  these are really two different types of sounds.

On Lyr2: the 400i has a more life like bass, still goes lower than HD650.  HD650 is still louder but not by much and seems to go a little lower on Lyr2.

You should get someone who has a bottlehead crack comment on the HD650 bass as they say the Crack/HD650 pair is one of the best.

I'll just hope it sounds the same using a neutral SS amp, but as far as that sounds: because what you're describing is EXACTLY what I am looking for, thanks for the help.
