After everything is said and done, we should all be on this site for mostly one reason: The music.
 
I'd like to start a thread on hidden gems. We all know of a few I'm sure. Songs, Albums, Artists.  These are the ones that move you, but their not necessarily everyone's cup of tea. This for me, makes them more personal.  These are albums that either never made it to the charts or did so for a short duration. It can be just one song/track or an artist that never got the full recognition they deserved (in your opinion).  The more music we hear the more we realize there is a whole world out there we don't know about.
 
Well I for one would like to know more, and I think this would be a good place to ask for help. Lets help each other expand.
 
I only ask one thing. The choices you list are to the best of your knowledge available and well recorded. Unfortunately good music can be poorly recorded and/or mixed.  This is an audiophile site and I believe most of us would rather stay in the dark about good music that has been destroyed by the medium. Audiophile grade recordings will gain more appreciation.

At first I was thinking it was a bit too raw but it grew on me REALLY fast. Love it.

DJ Screw: 3 'n the Mornin' Part Two
Thick, syrupy southern hip hop that is often as majestic as it is raunchy.
 

Serge Gainsbourg: Histoire de Melody Nelson
Seductive, spoken-word French pop, and one of my top ten favorite albums of all time.
 

Refused: The Shape of Punk to Come
Widely admired among hardcore punk fans, but melodic and experimental enough that I think adventurous listeners period will really find something worthwhile here.
 

Boris: Boris at Last -Feedbacker-
One of the best drone albums I've ever encountered, and an amazing guitar album in its own right.
 

Comus: First Utterance
Freaky folk from the 70's--may take some mental adjustment to get the hang of it. Mostly goofy and disturbing, but occasional shots of real beauty and even some poppy moments.
 
Looking forward to seeing what else people post! I'm already familiar with Mazzy Star, Roger Waters, Dead Can Dance, and Laurie Anderson, but I'll be sure to check out the rest!
