Hi guys! I don't really know anything about todays market of portable headphones and I am looking for some.I don't care if they isolate or suck at isolation and I would like to spend less than or around 200.00 USD. I listen mostly listen to punk, alternative, indie, folk, and a little bit of hip hop.My Preferences for sound would be clear detailed mids, tight bass, and a detailed high end. Anyone got any suggestions?

Those are Audio Technica right? will I need an amp to drive them? I mainly want to us these headphones on the go, don't really want to carry around a amp.

Do these need an amp? I've always hesitated on them because I thought that they did. There are probably 100 threads on this, but since you raised them...

I've wondered the same thing. After all, they have a pretty high impedance of 70 ohms. On the other hand, they also have a very high sensitivity rating of 120 dB/V. So, what does this mean? Amp? No amp?

No amp needed IMO for HD25-1 II. My Cowon D2, Fuze, and 5G ipod drive them fine.

Thanks, good to know. Now they have to go back on the list. As you may have already seen, someone started a thread today on this topic, and everyone else agrees with you. HeadRoom seems to think they could really use one though if you read their product description, which is probably what put the idea in my mind.

I've been looking at the ATH-ES7's also but I'm stuck on getting a pair with a single sided cable. When I'm home relaxing I really hate the two cables...minus one would really be nice.
The HD-25 I'm looking at also. For $299 for a medium sized DJ type headphone is pretty expensive and I'm not sure how it will sound up to my W3 in ears.

Great! Interesting choice. Since they look brand new, maybe you can post your impressions after a few weeks.
