You might be able to get some Emotiva Airmotiv 6S speakers if you call them. They are awesome.

These Monoprice 5" studio monitors are about the best bang for the buck studio monitors ($190).

The JBL LSR 305 MKII would I assume would be the next step up.

What sources or DAC would you plug the studio monitors into?

Best quality for your dollar will likely be a pair of powered monitors - I have an older set of KRK VXT6’s, bit out of your price range for the current model, but their Rokit series or an Adam T5V might hit the spot. Does slightly depend what your connecting them to.
