HELP: Portable AC NO EXHAUST PIPE
Jun 2, 2007 at 12:30 AM Post #2 of 25
the closest I have seen to that was a portable (meaining it easily rolled from room to room) but it did have about a 3 or 4" flex-hose (like for a clothes dryer) that you did need to place in the window to exhaust the hot air (it does need to go somewhere, right?)

The heat that the A/C pulls from the air in the room, as NiceCans indicated, must go somewhere. There is no such thing as an exhaustless portable A/C.

Yeah I've already looked into this enough...they do make small portable "AC" units that use water to cool, but they only work in dry climates and even then work only marginally. Your best bet is a window unit for the room.

Really? Please let me know the brand/model. It's pretty dry here in Toronto.

They're called "Swamp Coolers", not terribly effective.

What he's talking about is so-called "swamp coolers", which work well when it is both hot and dry. If your relative humidity is usually above 50% and your air temperature below 90°, they won't offer much cooling.

lookup VORNADO
or check out the Help me find a fan thread in the members lounge forum.

I recently got a small one, my living room feels at least 10 degrees cooler and without the loud noise normally associated with fans, even the lower speeds have an effect. Plus it improves the effectiveness of my window fan or air conditioner noticably.

Now, as to where you can get some good block ice, I know this guy, see . . .

edit - OMG those pics and comments are hilarious . . . . .and yes, hot.

MORE ICE OVER HERE, please!

So is it the Air Circulator that's cooling your room or a Swamp Cooler?
