So, I have the HD595 and the HD580. I really enjoy both and find them to be slightly different (each performing less in different areas). My question is, should I sell them both and get a HD650? Do the 650 encompass both of their good qualities and performs well in all music genres with great extensions on both ends?

Help me guys!

Depends on your use. If most people asked me if they should sell the HD580 and get a HD650, I'd probably say no. I think the HD650 is superior to the HD580 and HD595, but it takes the right system (and money) to really push that. So in most situations I'd say no, including your setup. I've actually wondered that opposite - should I sell the HD650 and buy two HD580s.

I haven't heard from these cans, but a lot of people think that 580/600 with 650 cables (or better yet, Cardas cables) are the best bargain.

I think diversifying is a good option too.

i have to agree blessingx, there are somethings that the HD595 will out do the HD650 on if the HD650 doesn't have a good amp. In your set up, i'd rather have a 580 and a 595 than one HD650.

I see. I was trying to look for an all arounder headphone. I'm getting a bit tired of the fact that i have to switch headphones back and forth for different genre/purpose. So i was thinking, what the heck, since i like the sennheiser sound, ill just go with the top of their line...

I have thorough experience with HD 650, but still bought the HD 600. Why? Because for the price of the HD 600 I could get a another decent headset that would accomplish other needs, at the same price as the HD 650.

Another vote for diversification! And reasonable systems!!

My HD600s and MS2i cover it all! And my system is about as good as my moderate quality cans. No guilt or desire to spend big bunches of cash to bring my system up to the standards of superior phones!!

...as much as I'd really like to....but then reality gets in the way!

I think blessingx makes good sense. I've never heard any of the recent Senns besides my 650. I hadn't owned a Senn in over 20 years so I said screw value, I want the big daddy. I'd read the 30 or so threads to be found on this subject and figured they were for me...although I love them, they do only sound "OK" with my lesser amps.

So the only way to solve my dilemma is by throwing more money at it?

I find Sennheier to be very good value indeed, but there are some really sharp competitors out there...

You'll have to excuse me, but I find this kind of a funny comment, as I would consider the 595 and 580 the top all-arounder cans in their class. Different styles certainly, but both are good for most of what you can thrown at them.

Another agreement with blessingx, the flaw that has kept me clear of the 650 is the money needed to make it sound right. On an average setup it's no contest, I would stick with the 580.

That's the head-fi way,
you gotta buy some Sennheisers
if you can't hear the veil.
Then you break down more
and open up the piggy bank
buy yourself an amp galore
get recommended cables -
(few hundred dollars more) -
and then head-fi curse and thank.
