yes i havent heard them so cant truly commnnt. lots of bass is not a problem for me depending on what im listening too. poor quality is  though. morketing hype is too.

but the best part, beats or no, is I just got the good news my niece has no interest in brand popularity, doesnt care at all. She wants decent sound, and doesnt want 'girly' phones either, the hockey my brother got her into must be doing its thing.

so im free. free i tells you.

i just ordered some hd598. if i like them im going to pass them along. (the beige is a bit old man though. i might have to look further...

a good  non beats suggestion above by the way, those look very good!

What sounds good is entirely opinion/preference given how many sound signatures there are, with beats being the most enjoyed/popular.  Many athletes such as myself use beats so sports don't necessarily influence those types of decisions.

My beats have lasted longer than my v-moda which is highly ranked/reviewed while also sounding better to me. So I don't consider the build quality poor/bad.

Though complaining about popular products is common why we call it butthurt.

There are a ton of niche brands out there but without knowing sound signature suggestions will be random.
