Audiotechnica AD700's come in on Amazon right around the $100 mark and have an open and airy soundstage but they unfortunately are severely lacking in bass.
I agree with this one. Some people think the soundstage isn't so great. Not the best soundstage, but it seems close to accurate to me. Great headphones for movies and games too. Plenty of bass for explosions.
the akg271mk2 has a big soundstage too in a closed can format, and easily powered...sounds good out of an ipad.
i used to keep this in my truck. very light on the head. no issues with its hardiness...i dun sit on it
The AD700 is quite a bit lighter in the bass than the MDR-V6. My personal choice, coming from your standpoint on the V6, is the Fischer Audio FA-003 and its OEM cronies. While the Fischer-branded model would cost you around $200 including shipping, you can get the Jaycar-branded versions for much less here.
