I have a beginner setup, but my Tube Amp suggests that I turn the unit off, switch headphones, turn unit on and allow time for the tubes to warm up before listening.  When trying to A/B headphones... it's way too long to remember passages (especially when one keeps them to under 30 seconds a clip to hear differences.  Just looking for a passive headphone switching scheme that will allow me to keep the amp plugged in and on and allow me to merely press a button or something to change headphones.  Suggestions please...

That's what I do. My Y splitter is just a cheap radioshack one so I don't use it for serious listening or comparisons but I really helps out when burning in multiple cans or trying to pick up the basic differences between a couple of cans.
