Hi, usually hang around AA but I recently found my very old Sony MDR V6 phones had finally died and I need a replacement. Have read a lot here and elsewhere but still am a little confused about phones and what I might want to audition, etc. My preference is for a closed design to keep external noises out. My stereo rig is somewhat laid back (YBA Passion-Marantz Sa-11S1-ProAc D15's and I would like to maintain that sound in new phones. I will plug into a Yamaha receiver that is being fed from the tape out of my Passion. I doubt I would want to buy a headphone amp just yet. Can I get two or three recommendations in the $200-$300 price range new but would consider an older used model that fit my criteria.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

I can't help but recommend the Audio Technica M50 for around $100.

There is nothing in the $200-$300 range that would not sound significantly better with an amp. Get the M50 or HD555.
