We are proud to announce our new, top of the line HE-6 Orthodynamic headphone.

Head-Direct would like to allow some qualified members to be able to participate in our demo for our new flagship orthodynamic headphone.

This headphone will come in a housing similar to the HE-5LE but has leather covered earpieces (leather cover and head band will be different color from black HE-5LE) and a superior diaphragm and coating than our previous models. The HE-6 was innovated to try to bring you the finest sound reproduction possible from an Orthodynamic headphone.

Two headphones will be included in this program.  In your request, please include the amp that you will be using, and the other headphones that you have in your collection.

We would like to allow the first 20 eligible people that request a trial for each headphone, and here are the following parameters:

    * You can keep the headphone for up to one week
    * You must agree to ship the headphone and all of it’s accessories to the next person that we give you that is on the waiting list including using insurance and signature confirmation
    * We ask that you include a small review of the headphones in this headphone loaner thread
    * We ask that only people with experience with higher end or Orthodynamic headphones apply
    * The HE-6 needs ample power to exhibit all of its attributes, so we ask that you have an amp that can be used via the speaker outputs, between 5 and 30 w.p.c.  (We will be sending you a cable with tinned terminations on it in order to use a solid state or tubed amps’ speaker outputs)
    * We ask that you treat the HE-6 as if it was your own and take great care in handling and storing the headphone
    * We ask that you have fun and enjoy the loan and share your experience with friends and other Head-Fiers.
    * We reserve the right to deny requests that we feel don’t have the proper amp or experience using high end headphones

Thank You !!!!

Fang @ Head-Direct

To all head-fiers who want to join the loaner program:
Please edit your post and let us know whether you are in the east or the west, or in Europe. We will use the Mississippi River to divide the country into east and west. I will post loaner ID list then. We will do shipping later this week. Thanks a lot.

Updated on July 08

Now I am posting the list in US. Our distributor, SievekingSound, will take care of Euro Loaner program. Headfiers in Europe can PM him. I will arrange China (include HK) and Australia loaner program later in the summer.

This sounds great! Wish I could write good reviews

It should be interesting reading all of the impressions though.

I'd LOVE to try them. I'm currently working on making a pair of portable woodied (one open, which should be harder and one closed) SFI headphones and tuning them as best as I can. Hearing these would help a good bit and comparisons would obviously be included.
I'll write as detailed a review as possible to compensate for lack of experience compared to a lot of other members here.
I'm going to buy or build a tube amp for the open baffle speakers (A clone of the Zen Open Baffle, which I'll compare the HE 6s to) I'm building, so ampage is adequate. Would more w.p.c. harm them?

If I am chosen, I ask to get them later this summer. Early-mid August was what I was thinking so I have everything set for them.

EDIT
Gear to be used:
Dynaco ST70 or Decware SE84 clone (I'll update this if I actually get the amp before you choose)
Yamaha CR-xxxx receiver as preamp and alternative amp
AKG K271
Beyerdynamic DT220
Monster Turbine Pro Copper (Why not?)
DIY SFI orthodynamic headphones
Zen Open Baffle speakers
Some sort of SACD player, laptop, and USB dac (I'm working on it!)

I live in Illinois...so East of the Mississippi.

Go Cubs?

EDIT: YAY! dBel lives about half an hour/an hour from me.

Hello I would very much like to demo the upcoming HE-6 headphone. I have previously owned the HE-5 and would like to see how a higher model would compare.

I currently have a Woo Audio 5 amp that outputs 10 Watts per channel through speaker outputs which is connected to a PS Audio Perfectwave DAC. My experience with high end headphones are with Sennheiser HD800, Beyerdynamic T1, Stax Omega 2 which I've owned.

I too would like to try them.  I will be using an PWD DAC into Eddie Current ZDT amp (the 8-watt speaker out and 4-pin XLR are tied to the same output transformer taps).

I can compare it to my HE-5 LE/HE-5, HF-2, HD600/800 and Denon LA7000.  I can also compare to Woo WES with Stax O2 or HE60 if needed.  (PS:  I no longer have the K1000 because the HE-5 LE mids and highs matched them, but with better bass)

I'd LOVE to have a go at these!  Id be using an XA5400ES into a Marantz PM11-S1 if selected.  I could even swap in the HM-801 as a source :D

I've owned: R10, 007, Omega, HE90, L3000, JH-13, HD800, K1000

If all the reviews come from big name, overpriced hardware, then there won't be a good spectrum of results

Well, it was more the posters than the gear that made me feel noobish.
