My current setup is my Senn HD518 plugged straight into my PC. I'm looking for an amp that'll power my cans quite nicely, and have an external volume control. I'm trying not to spend more than $40 because ive got a new car to pay for. :p if any of you could recommend a decent headphone amp for >$40, id love it.

Hello! Can you please tell us why you don't want to go for FiiO? I heard good feedback for the FiiO E6 & E5. Anyway, I heard people here said that the HD518 need no AMP. Other than E6 from FiiO, I don't think there's any AMP under $40 :)

I dunno, it was a goofy idea I had a while ago. Something about conforming to society, but I've heard my HD518's with and without an amp, and I would prefer the amped version. I've already put a E7/E9 or E17/E09K combo on my christmas list for my computer rig :D

I'd say its big enough to be noticeable. Big enough for me to have the e7/e9 combo on the top of my wishlist. It opens them up, and makes them sound more full. It's like the difference in fullness after eating a big McDonalds Sandwich, to eating a big 16Oz steak.
