I've been away for a while, and it seems the portable market has gotten a little bit wacky. Could someone let me know if anything fits the following description?

I wanted an HD player (30 gig at least) with a line out. I will not be using video at all, so I don't care about that. I'd prefer something that I can transfer files two directly via USB. I'm not willing to use iTunes.

I don't think any UMS compliant HDD players are on the market anymore. The last one was the Cowon X5, which was discontinued recently. Other options you have are rockboxed ipod, which has terrible battery life, or scour the internet for a rio karma, Iriver H120/140, or gigabeat f series+rockbox
