actually I think i was going to buy the audeze's anyway.... but it hurt a little knowing that the technically better hd 800 is that cheaper

At current Canadian price, HD800 = $1599 and LCD2 = $1100, I prefer HD800.
If no price involved I still prefer HD800.  
 
Get HD800.

I paid 1299,99 for my hd 800 more than a year ago at fillion electronique in montreal. they had a special sale. they had a demo unit in the store and no new hd 800. I told them I was not a patient man. not only did they ordered me a new pair right away but they gave me the demo unit until my new hd 800 arrived.

I had pretty much all the top-tier headphones except SR009, LCD3 and UE12.  
For me HD800 beats LCD2, HE6, UE8, D7k, T1, etc. 
 
Other people might find it differently. You made a right choice, cheers.
