I succumbed to an impulse buy and ordered both. I'm thinking I may like the RX900 over the 700 based on everything I've read, but we'll see. You may be seeing one or both of them in the FS forum soon.

Oh...and trolls on Head-Fi....yeah, there's a lot more than there used to be.

I know this is years after the fact and you've probably moved on from this but I was wondering if you still have a clear-ish impression of the comparison of the two. My wife let our kid throw her pair of 700s down the stairs and I'd been wondering about the 900s for a loooooong time now so I though maybe I'd try those for "her." I've open-modded my pair of 700s and I LOVE them even between sessions with my LCD-2s. They're just fun cheapies. And they're so incredibly comfortable!

I know I re-cabled both, but I seem to recall the 700 was more musical, more fun to listen but the 900 was a bit more refined. I would definitely try the 900 if I were in your position.

Cool. Thanks! By "re-cabled" you mean you upgraded the cables or just repaired them?

I upgraded the cable with nice Mogami wire....
