Since a new thread seems to pop up every couple months about which Ring Cycle is the best, I thought it might be interesting to approach the Ring from a different angle.

Who is your favorite Wotan?

I enjoyed Theo Adams (?) on the Bohm recording b/c he sounds so grief-stricken and solemn.

But James Morris gets my vote from the Levine recording. He combines such passion with such dignity, and his voice is so authoritative that I think he's tops.

[all my comments come with the standard disclaimer that many on this board are far more knowledgeable about all things Wagnerian than I].

I suppose Friedrich Schorr gets overall honors, but I think that Donald McIntyre and John Tomlinson are close seconds.

Theo Adam and Hans Hotter are also very good, but Hotter was done by the 1960s and I prefer Adam in other, but still Wagner, roles.
