I'm not a audiophile but I no what sounds good and doesn't. My question, could I tell a difference between the 125 and the 325i, for the better I mean. I have the 125 now.

Thanks

Put on Rush, Counterparts, and you will tell. I cannot imagine any other headphone playing it better than the 325i.

Also, what is your source/amp? Grados tend to sound fuller and a bit warmer with even just a portable amp, which might be quite a benefit with the 325i, which can sound brittle when underpowered.

Of the two, go with the SR325i with flats. I love my SR225 with bowls.

Yuck! I thought that sounded horrible. I'd rather have the brightness than the muted, mushy sound.

It's the only Grado where flats just don't seem to do it for me.

The 325is have smoother highs but are also very detailed. But, the main difference between the 125 and 325is is the bass. There's much more bass on the 325is. It's not a bass monster, but what it does have is very clean, deep and punchy. There's also an improvement in soundstage.

Dononus, the guy he reviewed alot of grado's and some sennheisers at goodcans.com said that the 225 has indeed more bass than the lower models, but not as muc as the 325i.

The bass of the 325i is good. Out from a high-end Denon CD player headphone out, it beat a pair of D2000 that were right out of the box - so much, in fact, that I found the D2000 lacking. But that could be just the set-up. The deepest bass I tried was Bach's Toccata and Fuge out of a church organ.

I have tried test tones with MacBook Pro + 325i, and the first tone I can hear as a tone is 15Hz, but it's not very strong. The sound joins normality somewhere between 30Hz and 40Hz out of the laptop. I haven't compared test tones with a proper amp, but my impression is that while the mid bass is indeed excellent: strong and very well controlled, these are not the headphones you pick for deep bass.

I thought only new-borns were able to hear 20hz, and that people of 20y/o are already unable to hear tones that low. 15hz??

I find the SR325i with bowls to be so sibilant it almost makes my eyes water, but with flats I think it sounds great. Everyone has their own preferences, of course.

The SR325i are pretty heavy though.
