Should I get my ms2i's magnumized or should I get HE-500's? We got them in at the store I work at, and the cost price is 60%, which is a great deal.

After listening, I really really feel like getting them. They have the new silver cable by the way. Can anyone tell me the differences they've heard between it and the previous bulky one? I'm very curious to know.

XD That really helps! But for you for example, which is most enjoyable? Which is more detailed and textured? How does soundstage compare?

Heya,

Ortho... or Grado.

Both are distinctly different.

Very best,

I really don't see how Magnums can compare to the HE-500... though I haven't heard either. You need a good amp to run the HE-500s though.

I disagree :) They are both very good headphones but sound very different as well as using different technologies and amp requirements are different.

Also to the OP, I doubt there are many people who have heard both the HE-500 and current v4 Magnums.

As far as I know, you need a good amp  to get the best out of the HE-500s, but they will run on portable amps well enough.  I doubt it's the hugest deal.  I don't know a ton about the magnums, but the HE-500s are a top tier headphone so I think it's very unlikely to be disappointed.  If you look around, I know I saw some reviews stating the difference between the new silver cable/pads compared to the old.  It's not huge.  The HE500 is not extremely revealing but nonetheless people find it to sound very real.  I know absoultely nothing about the magnum, but I don't think many have been disappointed with the HE500.  And if you really get 60% off, that's just an absurd value.
