Now please compare GH2 and GH4 with the GH1!I have GH2 and GH4. Tonally, they are similar. With harder cocobolo wood, GH2 is a bit 'sharper' on transients and a bit 'faster' on the decay of notes / chords than is the case for softer Norwegian pine GH4. I love both!

Received today the rs2x, at the first hearing not a great upgrade but making an a-b comparison there are more clarity and strength on mids and high, the voices are vibrant and so lively. Back on the 225x the sound is thinner, how can I say? Less materic?
And please make you a favour, use stock pads, at least on the rs2x.
Maybe on the 225x I prefer the bowls but I have to admit that to me the flat pads on the 325x and 225x make the bass a little too boomy so ymmv. Anyway the 225x is phenomenal for its price
The RS2x takes long long long time to show what it can do. I almost return it because it was thin and harsh compared to the 325x. Thank God I didn't.
Recently I think my RS2x get it's final warm touch. I still love my 325x, but after 3 days I get tired of it's rounded sound and go back to my RS2x that I stay for a week of two.
So I suggest a lot of patience with it. It will do unique things that you won't find in the world of heaphones.

Rs2x is not thin and harsh at all on my setup . If I were to describe the sound it would be smooth, detailed , neutral ,good mids (but less warm than rs1x). I feel it's the grado that sound most monitor like if that makes sense. The RS2x takes long long long time to show what it can do. This being a quiet weekend with weather rather typical for April (right now its 8° Celsius, raining with some wind thrown in for good) I played around with some pads I have on load: Nyczaj
and two different variants from Dekoni:
Since I don't have two identical Grados available I can't give in-depth comparisons unfortunately, and changing pads takes too long to remember details (especially the Dekoni proved a tight fit). I used the RS1x I still have on loan
The Nyczaj pads work really well, changing sound signature not much but providing a bit more bass, without changing the overall balance too much. Smallest set of the three, yet very comfortable and soft, not scratchy in any way.
The Dekoni velour were really comfortable, but I did not like the changes to the sound signature they introduced: treble was too muted, overly warm and kind of muddy. Feels good to wear, very deep. Size is a bit comical on the RS1x.
The other Dekoni variant "Fenestrated Velour" works much better, more like the Nyczaj pads but deeper with a bit more room inside. Very comfortable. Again, size looks a bit comical...
My personal preference from left to right: Nyczaj, Dekoni Fenetrated, Dekoni Velour:
Still I have to say I really like the respective default pads on Grados. They obviously put a lot of thought into that selection, and I see them as part of the intended sound signature. Yet those 3rd party pads offer a different take (especially more comfortable than L pads) and allow to change the sound signature without any harm to the headphones.
I'll try them next on my RS-1 button, which currently has G pads installed.
Dekoni also offers measurements with their pads. I did not try the sheepskin variant, looks a bit extreme on there graphs anyway:

Oh, and I decorated the wall beside my listening chair...

Nice wall! I really miss my RS-1 buttons. I’ve sent them to a specialist headphone service for inspection. I hope the driver can be fixed. OK, I fumbled around with my RS-1 button already...
Again I liked the Nyczaj pads best. Surprisingly deep reaching bass, very balanced overall. I think I'll get a set for this one.
The Dekoni Fenetrated pads did not work that well with the RS-1 button though: a bit thick bass and a slight glare in the upper midrange. Still very comfortable though.
The Dekoni Velour pads work better with the RS-1 button, taming that slight glare (which it also exhibits with the G pads). Very comfortable again, nice combination.
Yes, there's a driver hidden deep down

I find that the flat pads remove like 90% of the soundstage on my rs1x and it murders the upper mids too. L pads are absolutely the way to go.Agreed, there is something special about the L-pad that comes with the RS2x. I tried the flats and the G-Pad, but the stock pads sound the best to my ears.

It has been said many times, but to my ears, Grado knows which pads work best with each model.

Anyone looking for a quality amp for their set up should check this out.
An ad went up in the Classifieds selling the HeadAmp Gilmore Lite mk2 along with its optional Golden Reference discrete regulated power supply.
An excellent match with all my Grados and most all of my other phones. I consider it one of the best amp combos up to $1000 or more. The seller’s price is KILLER at less than $400, saving you hundreds on the price of a new pair.
Look into it, I suspect it will sell fairly quickly.

Appreciate the impressions and pics. I also use the same Ikea chair with matching ottoman in my audio rig. This being a quiet weekend with weather rather typical for April (right now its 8° Celsius, raining with some wind thrown in for good) I played around with some pads I have on load: Nyczaj

I have some nyczaj pads in transit. I didnt realize the Dekoni pads were so large in comparison which to me is worrisome as a Flat pad fan. Hoping nyczaj provide a nice balance.
Your post inspired me to mod some cheap velour bowls. I removed the stock foam and replaced with much shallower foam (L-pads). The result is warmer sound than L-pad but without the skin grating itchy foam of L-pad, sortve what Im hoping of nyczaj.
Probably simpler and cheaper just to do tape mod. And I think nyczaj will be similar but look nicer.

Does the color of the IKEA chair affect frequency response? The gray one looks like it would sound good. I can’t vouch for alternate chair colors.
