As far as I can tell, the packaging of version 1 and 2 are identical. The main difference is the version 2 has a glossy finish on the earbuds and has build quality improvements in the cord.
I never heard version 1 so I cannot compare. They are not burned in yet so sound judgement is not fair at this point. I will say the sound is very clean and has good bass but does not kick as hard as my cx500's. Took them 2 weeks to get to me and will give impressions with more burn in time.
