curious, are you noticing the same thing with your turntable or just with your digital source?

The input tube controls the amount of gain. I believe you can swap in various 9 pin tubes that are compatible. For example, if you liked to listen at even louder volumes, a 12ax7 could be subbed which is higher gain than the 12au7. 12At7 i believe is a lower gain and might work, there are also subs for the 12 series like the 5751 which is lower gain and would allow more volume control on the knob. Every one's listening preferences for volume is different, so he merely needs to find an input tube with lower gain and he should be all set.

Ah, thanks for the claro...I think the closest sub is probably between 20 and 60, so he must have some sensitive hearing

Ray Samuels

as i expressed to you when i listened to my raptor at my normal level i experienced listening fatigue and even lowering the volume just delayed the onset of the fatigue and wasn't a satisfying volume.

You bought the worst amp ever made, completely and utterly wasted your money. Shame on you. Wish I had one!!

Does anybody know were the 5963 that Ray sent out with the amp falls on the gain list in the 12xx7 family?? Close to the 12at7??

Hey Ray, does the signal double in strength in balanced mode for this tube only or all 12xx7 family of tubes in balanced mode?? Thanks

5963 has a gain of about 21, whereas the 12at7 has a gain of about 60

do you use any headphones with your b52 or is it just a preamp.

I use it as both. Depends if the wife wants a little peace and quiet or not!
