I can do it.

Once I knew what to look for, I found one of your old posts about pre-twisting the wire before locking it....

Can I use any wire or do I need 22ga shielded pair cable as per one of the posts?

It does not have to be shielded. Just plain stranded hookup wire should do. 22AWG is ok if not too long. Or consider something a bit thicker (you're limited physically by what would fit into the connector as well as the size of the solder tabs). Wrap the pair in some sleeving (such as Techflex or some other style) for protection and appearance.
