I'd prefer to get them new. Those look pretty nice, but I'd prefer not to pay that much.

I've been doing some more research, and apparently some headphones have their chords detachable. This prevents having to replace the entire headset if there is a problem with the cable. Do you know any headset like that matching my description?

Also, are these any good?

Also, thank you so much for your help so far.

The HD380 pro comes with a very long (and heavy) coiled cable and has a proprietary plug. You could replace it with a lighter straight cable but it LOOK HERE for pics on how it isn't exactly how it was designed to work. The sound of those are pretty flat and could be suitable for your type of music. Clamping force is quite a lot on your head.

The HD25 are definitely a lot more fun to listen to for rock music. I honestly never really tried with classical but wouldn't be my first choice. Really nice for rock though.

The KRK KNS8400 has a detachable cable and a short version of that cable is available. It is an over ear headphone and would also be good for rock listening.

The pair you linked are an on-ear headphone. Take a look at the DT1350, it will really shine for your music preference and are not bass monsters and are great for portability. They can be found for 200 ish in the classified forums on here if you don't mind used which could fall within your budget. B&H has them for 285 free shipping. The don't have "noise cancelling" but they are closed and isolate noise quite well.

I'd prefer to get them new. Those look pretty nice, but I'd prefer not to pay that much.

The Sennheiser HD 25-1 II is a very good neutral oriented portable can.  I like it better than the more expensive Beyer DT 1350, but reasonable minds/ears will differ on that issue.  The only (say under $500) portable can that I have heard that is better is the Senn Amperior.

The Q701 is a bit hungry for power, so you probably need an amplifier too. Many devices marketed under the label "DAC" include an amp section, but make sure it's good for the '701.

Your first choice doesn't meet your stated needs. While the O2 is more than enough for the '701, the ODAC part has no optical input (and, by itself, no amp section.) The ODAC+O2 combo is ~$300.

So the only one that would match my requirements is the "Maverick Audio Tubemagic D1"? Is it good for the Q701, is there any other Amp/DAC that would be better (with a similar price)?

EDIT: I have a Fiio E11, if i use it combined with the Audioengine D1 will it drive the Q701 with good quality sound?

You reached the limit of my experience very quickly. The idea of using vacuum tubes seems archaic as they're inefficient and the tubes eventually have to be replaced. Maverick advertises their D1 as adding a "warm sound", yet another thing I don't like. However, others disagree with my opinions.

I don't know the Audioengine D1. I own their A2 and A5 speakers, and think they're a good company. If you buy the D1 directly from them and don't like it, you can return it "within 30 days" and they'll refund the purchase price.

I am looking for some solid unamped over ear or on ear headphones in the $100-$200 range. I guess i would prefer something with good sound isolation. I will be using them mostly while studying and travelling so comfort and portability are important. I listen to many genres of music including rock, rap, and electronic music. I will also use them to stream lectures from my laptop on a daily basis. The one thing I really want to avoid is fatigue due to overpowering highs. I also wear glasses.

I appreciate the help. Thanks

Major n00b! Please Help! Audio Technicas M50S or Soundmagic HP100?

Basically I want to get a good pair of headphones that I will be using with my smartphone(nokia lumia 920) and want a good pair for my laptop too(Lenovo yogapad). I like to listen to electronic music but not always, and want to know what would be the better buy. I have been researching during the last week and think that these may be the headphones that I will buy. From what I read the M50S is really popular but the soundmagic apparently had better sound and are underrated. So any advice for these headphones or any other will be good. I have only had 20$ earphones that I kept lost that most of the time were uncomfortable. Now I want comfortable headphones. Any advice appreciated.

Alright guys, you've all been very helpful. I've narrowed it down to three:

Sennheiser HD 25-1 II http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/507447-REG/Sennheiser_HD_25_1_II_HD_25_1_II.html
KRK KNS 8400 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/747294-REG/KRK_KNS_8400_KNS_8400_Closed_Back_Around_Ear.html
Seinheiser Amperior (if this one's nice enough, I'd be willing to get it refurbished) http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/840397-REG/Sennheiser_HD_25_AMPERIOR_SILVER_Amperior_On_Ear_Stereo_Headphones.html

Price aside, which one do you think would be the best quality for what I'm looking for? The Sennheiser HD seems good, but some reviews says it's not as comfortable. The KRK seems great, but it's cheaper than the HD 25, so I'm wondering if there's a good reason behind that. The Amperior looks good and has the highest value, but there are no reviews.

What sound signature do you prefer?

I guess I prefer more neutral sound. I definitely enjoy nice tight bass without sacrificing mids and highs. I also can't stand overly emphasized highs that end up hurting my ears. I'm kinda new to this terminology but something that can capture the sound of an acoustic or classical guitar is ideal if that makes sense.

Want to get a pair of cans for my special lady. She's been using half broken Walgreens ear buds for a while and I feel bad. Needs to be on or over the ear and not as bulky as my 770's. NOT beats.

She listens to top40 indie and hiphop off of an iPod and Spotify off of her phone.

Try the UE6000 in white. Great for hiphop, works well with ipod. Look good.

Hey everyone.

I just found this forum through google while searching for headphones. I am hoping that you can help me.

I have a Samsung C7000 (UE46C7000) TV, and i would like to purchase a headset for watching movies on it. I have it connected through HDMI to my HTPC (ASRock ION 330-HT), running openelec with XBMC.

After my search i ended up that wireless and 5.1 are way too expensive and also there are brands that you need a fortune to buy a basic headset.

I ended up finding the following headsets that are close to my budget:

1) Beyerdynamic DTX 710
2) American Audio HP 550
3) Sennheiser HD 205

What i want from you guys is to help me understand if i will be able to use them for the purpose i want and if they are compatible or not. I really want to be able to watch a movie and get nice sound but comfort in the ears as well. Also feel free to suggest some good heasets for this purpose.

I am willing to go up to a max of €60 ($80).

Thanks in advance.
