Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

What would be a good open headphone to complement these, sub-$300? I was thinking the K712.

So many choices!  Really all about your preference - but to make it a little easier (for those that ordered during the drop), and keep it in the Massdrop family, I would say the HE350 with the BAP is a good open headphone to complement the TH-X00.

It's always best to listen to as many headphones as you can to find the one that's the best for your individual setup, wants, and needs.

Good luck!

Beyer, Senn, HiFiMan, AKG, ... so many options. Best would be to specify what exactly you want from the headphone (sound signature, use for what genres, ...) and then to audition some of them to pick your favourite - or just go ahead and buy all of them.

I'm thinking bass-light with a big soundstage. Thanks for the HD 600 recommendations!

K701's are getting super cheap ($130 on eBay) so I might grab one of those as that's an insane value.

I do not really think, you would gain anything with any sub-$300 open headphone over X00. In $5-600+ category maybe, but not sub-$300.

I'm kind of worried about this too. I would hate to buy another pair to only find them completely inferior to the TH-X00 or to practically never use them. I don't have anywhere in my area to audition headphones either.

  +1 to the HD600

+2 to the HD600.

I own HD600s and TH-X00 and they compliment each other perfectly. The HD600 naturally has the larger soundstage, slightly more transparent.. as in sounding clearer. The TH-X00 is a better jack of all trades. The HD600 lacks subbass and is more suited for vocals, acoustic, classical, live instruments -- but it does that best.

The TH-X00 I listen to just about everything else with... rock, hip-hop, EDM, dance, pop, synthpop, 80s music, Prince... etc.

You will be happy owning both, I would be sad if I only owned one of them.

The Purpleheart should be fun to try out and compare with the E-MU Teak, TH-X00 Mahogany, TH-X00 Ebony, TH-900 and any version of the TH-6XX series.

Good times...

And expensive (for some of us, at least)? :p

Did you just collected all those seriously ?

Or (my guess) many friends in many places. I'm jelly.
