I accidentally put TH900 on the maximum volume on DACmini can this damage them or I shouldn't worry that much ? (I simply love them)

For how long? The TH900 are rather sensitive headphones, so theoretically they're more prone to damage by extremely high volume...

Cumulative spectral decay (CSD) or waterfall plots measure energy content over time across all frequencies based on a "sound burst" that excites all frequencies. They are sort of like a FR over time (technically not really as they measure energy throughout the band in successively smaller windows over time.) These plots are a good tool to "see" driver ringing or resonances (seen as ridges), which typically sounds bad (piercing, glare, shoutyness, etc.); and how fast and cleanly the driver decays (speed and extraction of low level information.)

For a perfect or near-perfect response, the decay should be immediate. We first see a wall (meaning all frequencies are excited) at the beginning. The next few fractions of a millisecond, the wall collapses into silence (meaning the driver is no longer vibrating or sound waves are no longer bouncing around inside the headphone enclosures.) The back wall at time = 0 is basically an uncompensated frequency response. Success plots over time move toward us.

So yes, it has to do with the speed of the driver among other things.

Maxvla, did you also make frequency measurements of an old Hd800 and a new one.
There should be a big difference.

I don't do the measurements. Purrin does.

Here are a few more HD800s.

Anaxilus (unsure serial #):

Headroom's demo (serial #500ish):

Here's mine (#16021)

Among the bunch they decided mine sounded the best of the stock form HD800s they had on hand.

Great, thank you!

Is there any specific reason why the older one

is starting below 1k and the last 3 didn't?

I also think (like ASR), that the TH900 has a different chart because it's closed model.

Just saw your signature by changing to desktop mode. (i have also a BHA-1)
Do you prefer Gungnir or BHA-1 ?

(just found the link: http://www.head-fi.org/t/566929/headphone-csd-waterfall-plots)

I am not sure, if the chart tells everything, as the 007 might be a nice can, but the chart is telling a different story.

Just the settings at the time for that particular test, I guess.

Gungnir is my DAC, BHA-1 is my amp, so I like both of them, together!

FWIW I also briefly owned a SR-007 and sold it due to being sensitive to those treble resonances. They were somewhat fatiguing me and I had no idea why since they were so well regarded. Then I saw the graphs and figured it out.

I already have.

Balanced TH900, And .... ? Does this bring a real improvement on the sound or sound stage ? Isn't the advantage of going Balanced reduce With very efficient headphone like the TH900 ?

In other Words: I own à RedWine Audio amp With booth SE AND Balanced outputs. Should i rewire my TH900 Balanced ? Will i hear à différence ? :)

Thanks

Aside Question Magic Man: what câbling have you used ? Is Lawron's Queen cooper cabling Recommended With the TH900 ou do you recommand another câble ?
