For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

I'm still working out in my shop, but now I'm modifying a travel case to make more room for accessories. I switched from IEMs to earbuds so I'd be able to hear the intercom so I can hear when the mailman arrives with my signature required package (my SMSL VMV P2 is out for delivery! 😎 gonna see how feasible it would be to replace the GS-X Mini). I went with perhaps the most comfy buds known to man, the Simphonio Dragon 3+, and I'm still running them off the Kann Alpha. The Dragon 3+ are really one of those buds that can trick you into thinking you're listening to over ears with their staging and big presentation.

After listening to The Smiths and then taking a detour into some blues, I found myself longing to hear Joy Division 's 1979 classic, Unknown Pleasures. When I went to stream it I found that there is a 2019 remaster available so I decided to try that version and see what I think.

As far as Joy Division in general, they're the archetypal band I think of when the topic of that haunting vocals and jangly guitar sound that dominated the 80s and is making a bit of a comeback comes up. Such a great band! It's one of the great tragedies in rock that Ian Curtis killed himself and we never got to see what JD could've evolved into given the time to grow and perhaps the resources that would've come with greater success. However, the material they left us with and their impact on the direction of rock was definitely a worthy legacy. 🤘😎

RIP Mr. Curtis. I hope you found the peace you were seeking. Thanks for the music and the memories. 🥺🙏

Still rummaging around in dusty corners of my collection. Playing the "3 Feet High And Rising" album by De La Soul.

MP3 from De La Soul -> Bifrost -> Valhalla 2 -> Drop Hifiman HE5XX -> my head. Did not expect tubes to shine with rap (rap? hip-hop? What is De La Soul?), but the vocals are warm and thick.

Oooh, I can't even remember the last time I heard some De La Soul. I might have to have a little rewind with the LCD-4s.

When "The Smiths" comes up I start thinking of other greats from that era. Today its Robert Smith - the Cure and also Siouxsie and the Banshees. Smith is the master of turning major key compositions using downstrokes and strumming with devices and alternate tunings to achieve his mood of melancholy.

Cure - Disintegration, The Head on the Door & Banshees - Hyaena

Post Punk/Art Rock/Pop Goth (if there is such a thing)

on the HE-500 & my mini monitors

I had a bottle of Maker's Cask strength a while back, but my bassist drank most of that (bourbon is his drink) is that a bottle you'd rec or should I check out one of their other styles?
He could have saved some money and went with Four Roses. Goes down tasty and smooth and it's easy on the pocket.

The SMSL VMV P2 amp showed up not too long ago and I wanted to see how it does before I decide where to place it for listening so I put together a temporary station on my coffee table. I'm running the Hifiman HE6seV1s off the P2 with the Soekris 2541 decoding the coax out from a Wiim Pro. I chose the HE6se V1s because they were the most demanding pair of headphones I had close to hand and they do a great job exposing potential issues in a signal chain. For any potential customers who see this, this is pretty heavy amp. Time to fire this bad boy up!

For music I wasn't looking for anything in specific so I decided to just keep rolling with what I had queued up: Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (2017 10th Anny remaster) by Spoon. This is one of my favorite Spoon albums and, Spoon being one of my favorite bands, I'm intimately familiar with it so it makes a pretty good first test spin to ease into an evaluation with. It's low key enough to let me hear any obvious issues with tone and timbre. Well, enough talking. Here we go! 🤘😎

I'm down to give it a shot. Which bottle should I go with? The basic 5 year minimum, Small batch, single barrel, or what? Those three are listed as in stock at the local shop I try to support and it says they have "additional options(s) available upon request" which means he can order them. I'm just putting together a list of options and deciding at the shop. I'm also planning on talking with the proprietor who takes pride in knowing what alcohol his regulars might enjoy based on their preferences and he's normally spot on.

I would recommend that and Maker's Mark 46 is good. There's the basic bourbon and then they have various styles of it. It's fun to play around and try the different ones out. Kind of like tube rolling or using multiple headphones. Lol.

[Quite impressed with this (49%) wheated bourbon that I just tried out with my brother the other evening.]
