For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

Always nice to see another K240 DF fan. 🤘😎 I love mine and can say that after owning a pair of every variety of the K240 that I'm aware of over the years, the DFs are my favorites. When I was home for a few days earlier this week I actually spent a good amount of time enjoying them. All of the K240 Sextett talk from @Davidzak64 and others got me missing my DFs.

This could be easily taken out of context. 😲😜

No, it could easily be edited into having a new context, but the sentence itself without "creative quoting" seems to be just fine. 😉

The DF really is the least forgiving headphone I've ever owned though. Swervedriver only sounded barely acceptable just now. I enjoyed it because of the songwriting, not the production quality. That's the last time I listen to less than the best with them.
Even the DT 880 600 ohm sounds laid-back to me by comparison. But I never had problems with the treble like other people seem to. Probably because I've been using the X2HR for a while and the treble response on that thing is uh... https://www.rtings.com/headphones/1-5/graph#2056/7939

JRiver Media Player (PC) > SMSL SU9 > Schiit Asgard 3 > Denon AH-D7200

Rumor and Sigh by Richard Thompson - His seventh solo album, released in 1991 and was even nominated for a GRAMMY (R.E.M won it). The music is more alternative rock than folk rock and features a lots of his clever and distinctive playing, one of the tracks even made it onto the US charts (I Feel So Good). All of the tracks are strong but for me, one track stands out above the rest, 1952 Vincent Black Lightning is just iconic, specially to an old (ex) biker like me.
Went with the Asgard 3 and the Denons for the laid back sound. :darthsmile:

Cosmograf Rocks!

I really enjoy the HE400I sound signature when listening to Progressive Rock and hoping to upgrade to the HE560 or HE6 model in the near future. 🤞

Nice honeycombs. I've got a set of black ones on my HE-X4's. Very classy look!

Are you still using the custom pads or is this just an old pic? Part of me really thinks it would be awesome if after all that waiting for the Grado pads, you decided that these were better. 😂

I haven't switched back to the Custom pads since burn-in. Maybe they will tone down the bass just a tad. Thanks for the recommendation. 👍

Deezer Hifi -> Aiyima T10 tube DAC/preamp -> SMSL HO200 amp -> Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7b (with "Deerveer" replacement earpads).

Some thoughts:
  • These pads transform the MSR7b. Stock pads, in addition to being a shade too small for my liking, present a very "polite" sound signature. There's nothing wrong with it but I seldom found myself being drawn to these cans. These cheapo Aliexpress specials create a more Harman-oriented sound (in truth, probably a bit too exaggerated to be considered Harman). The accuracy suffers without a doubt, but maybe sometimes I just want to listen to some consumer tuning - deal with it
  • It's possible Vapor Trails is becoming my favourite Rush album. After Neil's tragedy and the long haitus it imposed on the band, the comeback album could have gone in any number of directions, but they dropped a neo-metal bombshell. The songwriting is gorgeous. The layering and musicianship are gorgeous. And it kicks ass.
