Thinksound ov21 (full-size closed wood cans) has been my go-to for most of the year now. Then my Sennheiser (Drop) HD6XX.

Hifiman Susvara/DEFS < SMSL HO200 < SMSL M500.3 (testing new combo for fun)

The Creation (2022) is a great compendium of pieces celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Lockenhaus Festival. I like Helena Winkelman's concerto for cello and strings (atlas). The brooding sound world is uniquely compelling, and the last movement's inexorable force and driving beat, through thrilling percussion, wowed me.

With the smsl chain I was testing, the sound was a little cooler. But thrilling and liquid enough to make me melt into the music. Bass was tight and convincing albeit not quite equal in impact to that was elicited from my usual upstream (LA90+X18) tho. I love that the background was dead silent and felt like a blank canvas from which colors blossomed forth.

Not to go off topic, but I just noticed that you own the SIVGA 023 open backs. How so you like them? Would you mind giving me a little rundown on your impressions?

Sure. I've been using them for 2.5 months. Like them a lot. Very capable drivers (Beryllium and Liquid-Crystal Polymer hybrid) and angled thoughtfully (by both frame and pads). They rivals Clear well in tonal/technical performances. Cleaner bass. Smoother highs. Less snappy. Not as open sounding. Mid-centric differently. Here are comparative frequency response plots (vs Clear OG): https://imgur.com/GYlwLn0

Thanks for the impressions. Looks like I'll be placing an order for another pair of headphones. I have been wondering about them for a while and given what you and a couple others say about them and their modest price my curiosity simply must be appeased.

To get back on topic, I needed a little pre-studio inspiration so I figured some Carmine Appice (I'm a drummer after all) with some Jeff Beck and a little Rod Stewart from the days when he leant his vocals to songs not meant for the easy-listening love song crowd would do the trick nicely.

Sennheiser HD800S into my ifi Gryphon being fed bit-perfect hi-res from Qobuz listening to Beck-ola by Jeff Beck Group. What a way to kick off a session!

Michael Schenker's Gibson Flying V sounds fabulous on this live album. He's a true guitar pioneer with his unique playing style and sound. :L3000:

Chord Mojo 2 > Focal Clear MGs - one of best grunge albums of all the time... wish "Zero" and "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" tracks were on the same album to make it even better.

One of the best of all time certainly, surpassed only by Mellon Collie and Gish

All kidding aside I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite amongst those three. Today:

Mellon Collie > Chord Poly + Mojo2 > A12t
Gish > Bluesound node > Modius > Asgard 2 > Sundara
