I would say go for the 650 for the music youre listening to

The 5000 will be too treble focused to sound natural with those genres imo

I love my SA5Ks but I own the HD650 specifically for that genre...

Haven't heard either of the cans mentioned but the OP should be looking at the AKG K501. They're perfect for those genre and heck of a lot cheaper too (~$150 if you can find them as they're rare).

I beg to differ. On the contrary, for female vocal SA5000 sound MUCH more natural or realistic than 650, which does have a "veil" effect which make the singer sounds at least 10 years older! As for acoustic jazz, the instruments separation, detail, and speed of SA5000 make it a winner hands down.

HD650 will win on large scale classical music as it is more balanced in that sense. For rock like music, it's a wash.

hd650 makes singers sound OLDER now...

I don't know which version of HD650 you have, but my HD650 makes singers sound Scottish...

Try the K501 with Jazz/acoustics, and then try them with rock/electronica.

Im quite sure that SA5000 isnt optimal choice for your music. But perhaps HD600 would be even better choice than HD650?

Hehe, it just means the headphone has obvious limitations, therefore it only performs well when listening to a limited type of sound. And something outside that comfort zone sucks

The HD650s female voices sound very similar to my speakers, which is pretty awesome to me. I like them. Seriously what more could you ask for in a headphone, but to mimic your favorite speakers when you can't listen to your speakers? Adding 10 years is the most obscene bullcr@p I've read about the HD650s so far.

Never heard the SA5000.

I thought the SA5000 was more costly? Where are you buying them? I've always been interested but were out of my price range in the past.
