Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
Apr 16, 2017 at 3:38 PM Post #3,211 of 6,742
I will join the Elear club in a couple of days. Package is on its way. So here is my question: What songs should I check out with them first? Where do they really shine? Did you guys have any sort of wow moment with it on a certain track?

I am super excited for this.

Best thing about this song is that it was covered by the Maccabees: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PO7y7DuxldM

Aw come on, Adele is fantastic.

But the audio engineering in pretty much all her albums is terrible (vinyl is better). Flat as a pancake and with audible distortions in many tracks. Dynamic range is terrible. Thank you loudness wars.

Adult contemporary/top 40 not for me either... But, yeah, she has a powerful voice.

I've seen Maccabees in concert actually. Good band, too bad they broke up.

One of the better Indie bands, together with Grizzly Bear. Saw them live in Paris and caught the drummers stick at the end of the conert. Felt like a proper groupie. Unfortunately their recordings are of terrible quality... I am afraid the Elear will bring that out even further. My UE-18s certainly do.

Two last songs to convince the Jazz doctor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7nPPpOUM2A and  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RA4BJVtIizw

We seem to have similar tastes. Grizzly Bear - their last album Shields is a masterpiece I think.

Meanwhile, I am listening to this masterpiece with my Elears while writing my master thesis....

It absolutely is. Did you check out the B-Sides of it?

Indie is more my speed (or adventurous Jazz)... Adele has good pipes, just find that song the most boring song ever (pop in general sense to have done away with chord progressions, song structure, bridges/choruses. Being a curmudgeon... My 23 year old daughter is giving me the evil eye).

Lol, just because it has a low dynamic range doesn't mean it has terrible engineering.  The main engineer behind 25 is Tom Elmhirst, who has quite the resume behind him.
