Very true. Which makes me wonder how the clears sound with a tube amp? I have a feeling it might not be a good match.

Pretty good if the tube amp isn’t too dark. I’ve been playing with the HeadAmp Gilmore Lite a lot lately with the Clear. Very warm and tube like with no degradation of detail.

Not so sure. Bass is pretty good within the Clears. I’d hate to loose detail. Would luv to try one

The Clear needs a low ohm output, so no OTL Amps, SET should be okay. It’s a different bird, but the MicroZOTL 2 sounds fantastic. It’s an OTL in name, but not delivery.

It sounds pretty good with the ifi Pro iCan in tube mode. It gives some warm roundness to the sound without losing detail.

To me it depends on the recording source. Some recording need some thicker and warmer sound. And some other recordings that already sound thick and warm will benefit from a solid state amp.

To me the clear behaves pretty well with both types of amping. However high current amps look like they are a NO, NO, like the bottle crack. I haven’t experienced this type, but it seems to bloat the bass in excess.

I have a Schiit Vali coming on Monday to try out with the Clears. It'll be interesting to see how it stacks up to my HA-1.

Looking forward to your impressions, I’ve been very tempted by the Vali and tube rolling.

Hi guys! If you are seriously considering purchasing a Clear and you have a place to buy them do it right away. I’ve just been told by Focal they are going to be impossible to get for a while.

This is a notice to the US and Canadian markets and does not indicate availability in other markets.

wow, they seem to sell clear crazy. I guess many professional musicians/studios are getting their hand on this one.

Nope! It’s that more inventory has gone to other smaller markets and as a result the US & Canadian markets got very small allocations.

Talking about amps for the Clear, here is what I auditioned in order of preference:
- Pathos Aurium (pure class A, tube pre stage and MOS-FET power stage, zero feedback): this became my main amp, it’s a hybrid tube/SS amp which I equipped with a pair NOS 1962 Telefunken ECC88 tubes. Paired with the Clear makes my listening sessions a transparency fest! Airy, detailed sound with tight bass. Addictive!
- V281: with my big surprise less transparent than the Aurium. But bass and speed are unbeatable.
- Cavalli Liquid Carbon 2.0: warmer, lush sound. Less detailed but very, very relaxed and... liquid.

My $0.02

If you adjust the powerful v281 settings to -6 and use the balanced cable. It’s quite good.

They'd reply "the Clear doesn't have HDMI, so that's one reason not to buy right now."
I know your reply is from months back but I couldn't help but comment on your username... very punny and clever! :D

So just to keep this on topic, I'm wondering if anyone can provide comparisons between Clear and DT1990? I performed a thread search for 1990 and got 6 results of which none were about comparisons against the Clear.

TIA!
